What is the difference between MB and MiB?
MB (megabyte) is usually 1,000,000 bytes (SI); MiB (mebibyte) is 1,048,576 bytes (binary). Hard drives sell by SI, but OSes often report binary — hence the size discrepancy.
Why does 1 "GB" on my drive show less space?
Manufacturers use decimal (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) while your OS may report binary (1 GB = 1,073,741,824), making the OS figure appear smaller.
