About Mileage
Turn distance and fuel used into MPG, metric consumption, and trip fuel cost.
Divide the distance driven by the fuel burned — that is your real-world economy, unit-converted automatically between imperial and metric. Add the pump price to cost the trip.
Fill the tank fully, reset the trip meter, drive normally, then refill and enter the numbers. Single-tank readings vary with traffic and weather; average three tanks for a stable figure. All math runs in your browser.
Where it is used
Tracking car efficiency over time, budgeting road trips, comparing vehicles, and validating dashboard readings.
How to use the Mileage
- Trip Distance — enter the value (e.g. 300).
- Distance Unit — enter the value.
- Fuel Used — enter the value (e.g. 12).
- Fuel Unit — enter the value.
- Fuel Price Per Unit (optional) — enter the value (e.g. 3.50).
- Calculate — press the Calculate button to see the result instantly above.
Formula
MPG = miles / gallons. L/100km = 235.214 / MPG. Cost = fuel × price.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Why does my MPG differ from the sticker rating?
- Ratings come from lab cycles. Real driving adds cold starts, idling, hills, cargo, and lead feet — 10–20% below rated is normal.
- How do I convert MPG to L/100km?
- Divide 235.214 by the MPG figure. A 25 MPG car uses about 9.4 L/100km.
- Should the tank method use one tank or several?
- Several. Pump shut-off inconsistency adds noise to single fills; averaging three or more tanks smooths it out.
