About This Calculator
This readability checker computes two standard metrics:
Flesch Reading Ease scores text from 0 (very hard) to 100 (very easy) using sentence length and syllables per word — 60–70 is the comfortable target for general web content. Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level converts the same inputs into a US school-grade estimate.
Both scores are computed from average sentence length and average syllables per word, then interpreted automatically. Analysis runs in your browser.

What is a good readability score?
For general web content, aim for 60–80 on the Flesch scale (standard to fairly easy), roughly an 8th–9th grade reading level. Highly technical pages can legitimately score lower.
Does it work for non-English text?
The formula assumes English syllable rules, so scores on other languages may be misleading. Results are most meaningful for English prose.
