About This Calculator

VAT can be added to or taken out of a price. Adding means multiplying the net amount by (1 + rate/100); removing means dividing a gross price back out of the tax-inclusive figure.

This calculator does both in one step and shows the net, the VAT amount, and the gross, so you always know which figure you are working with.

All math runs locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between adding and removing VAT?
Adding computes the tax on top of an ex-tax amount. Removing finds how much tax is already inside a tax-inclusive price. The two must not be mixed up or you will mis-price.
Is VAT the same as GST or sales tax?
They are similar value-added taxes implemented differently by country. Use this tool with whatever single rate applies to your sale.
