About This Calculator

Markup is the amount added to cost, expressed as a percentage of the cost price.

This calculator takes your cost and markup and returns the selling price, the profit, and the equivalent profit margin (markup and margin differ because margin uses the selling price as its base).

All math runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is profit divided by cost; margin is profit divided by selling price. At a 60% markup the margin is only 37.5%.
How do I work backwards from a target margin?
If you want a 40% margin, apply a markup of margin/(1−margin) = 66.7%. This tool computes the forward case; the profit-margin calculator handles the reverse.
