About This Calculator
An Indian IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is 11 characters: 4 letters identifying the bank, then a literal 5th character "0", then 6 branch characters.
This validator checks that format, normalises the code, and maps the 4-letter prefix to well-known banks when available.
It checks format and the prefix pattern only — it does not confirm the branch is live. Validation runs in your browser.

Does the 5th character have to be zero?
Yes. Under the standard, position 5 is always the digit 0. A code with any other character there fails the format check.
Will it know every bank?
Common banks are mapped by prefix. Unfamiliar but correctly formatted prefixes are still accepted, just labelled as unlisted.
